Happy Mothers' Day

By Mudiame Olumese

We celebrate mothers today!

The enormity of the job mothers carry out daily in the life(s) of all they are privileged to influence cannot be overemphasized, as this would determine the outcome of such life(s).

A woman does not become a mother by the process of child birth. the word mother encompasses more than that... It bring to mind nurturing, discipline, directing, and so on among other virtues. A mother grows and fosters her seed.

As I celebrate mothers today, my prayers are with those mothers who are in pain because their daughters' where-about is currently unknown; daughter who hold the key to tomorrow, and who carry the seed of future generations... the captives of the mighty will be delivered, your tears will turn to laughter. I speak, no one would tamper with the future of our daughter, as I join my voice with multiplied millions all around the world saying #BringBackOurGirls.

In celebrating mothers, I consciously remind my self of my task as a lady in Nation-Building; taking steps to mother those I have influence over. I am not quick to find the problem in a person, but decide to be part of the solution.

Raising future generation is a shared responsibility, we all must join hands to ensure that the future lacks terrorists.

DIY: Statement Earring

Fashion Friday

By Osamudiame Olumese

This earring is beautiful, and you cannot believe how easy it is to make. In this DIY, I would share with you the process to make it.

Suppliers
Link chain and Uhu glue
Stone accessory (Stone na yardi)                         Felt fabric                                                           Uhu glue
Link chain / Earring stand
Earring hook

Tools
 Scissors
Round Nose pliers
Stone accessory (Stone na yardi
Earring hooks
  • Cut your stone accessory to your desired shape and length
  • Rub Uhu Glue behind the stone accessory

  • Place the accessory on felt fabric, place a heavy object on it to allow them stick together. In between, the felt fabric is to add weight to the earring, so it is not easily blown by the slightest wind.

  • Trim off the excess felt.

  • Pass an opened link chain or earring stand through the hole where you would like to place your earring hook. The earring stand should be coiled into a link chain using the round nose plier. This may be a little difficult.
  • Open the formed link chain, pass the earring hook through.

Close the link chain securely.

And there you have it; your earring is ready to be rocked.

ME... rocking my Statement DIY earring

Plan to make yours this weekend. Don’t forget to share pictures with us of your earring, and how you rocked it.

Hair Care - Preventing Hair Breakage .

By Mudiame

I grew up knowing that the harmattan weather is associated amongst many other things with hair breakage – can I get witness ladies… I did not understand the reason, so I could not protect my hair (...who doesn't like long hair?).

Today as I assisted a young lady to loosen the weavon off her hair, I realized her hair was breaking and I informed her. She asked me a question which immediately made me want to share the little hair knowledge I have gained over the years.

Our hair needs moisture. During hot weather, moisture is readily available as most people sweat a lot, and nobody needs to tell you to wash your hair. In the harmattan season, the reverse is true; and because of the dry atmosphere, this affects the hair which easily becomes dry and bristle.

You can therefore prevent hair breakage by moisturizing your hair. By this, I mean using hair products with high water content, another option which I am a big fan of is - the mixture of water and glycerin. Did I see a strange look on your face… you heard me right water and glycerin! Asides from moisturizing your hair, the glycerin would strengthen your hair strands, and give you hair a subtle glow, thus preventing hair dryness.

What I do is this; I pour some glycerin into a spray bottle, and add water. I then shake to ensure it is well mixed. I spray on my hair as the need arises.

No matter what hair style you have on, and if you have on your natural hair, ensure you spray. For weavons, open up the attachments, so you can see your scalp, then spray at a distance – so it falls on your hair as drops. I am currently on braids and I spray by opening up my braids, portion by portion and spraying at a distance.

***** As spray bottle, you can make use of the empty perfume bottles that can be opened and closed; so you easily could pour in your desired content to be sprayed.

Please share with us other ways of preventing hair breakage during harmattan.
