The decision to work on myself, was fulfilling, as I realised that my previous relationships had a foundational issue; all should have been built on "LOVE".
I questioned my SELF LOVE, I wanted a body shape and height like Omotola Jalade, eyes like that of Jakkie Appiah. I couldn't love myself cos I thought I had defects, and as a result could not love another.
I was in a relationship not because I was able to handle it, but because it was the trend. All my friends had boyfriends who were rich, and I wanted to live life like them, not knowing that I couldn't handle the responsibilities of love.
I went in and out of abusive relationships - now, knowing that was not the best way to show love.
Here are lessons I learnt!
Love is a responsibility; if you are not ready to handle it don't go for it.
Love is a choice to give; never force it, it comes from the inside.
Love is not exploitative; if he/she isn't treating you like a king/queen, walk away.
Love does not manipulate.
Love is active not passive.
Love does not take or give away the dignity of another.
