Sunday Meditations: Take Care of Your own Race

By Zion Emmanuel Obeten

An athlete gets disqualified by the referee when he runs on another athlete’s track/lane and he gets disqualified by himself when heconstantly looks behind to see who is trying to catch up with him.

In the former, he becomes detrimental to the other athlete and in the latter; he becomes discouraged by the athlete trying to overtake him.

Such an athlete HARDLY wins by any of the two aforementioned acts. This is because he is not running his own race but someone else’s. These questions now come to the fore: If you run another man’s race, who gets to run yours? Even if someone gets to run yours, how certain are you that they will run it well as you would?

Only one person can do it as best as you and that is YOU. Only one person can RUN your race effectively and that is YOU. Only one person can replace you and that is YOU.

You may be running at a very slow PACE, and while running you may be mocked in your FACE. People may try to run you down to take your PLACE but never stop or quit to run your own RACE. That is the attitude of a winner.

A wise man said, “The best I can do is only what I can do…”

Let’s take our eyes off other people’s lane and take CARE of our own RACE.

Sunday Meditations: A Reset Mindset

By Zion Emmanuel Obeten

No matter how handsome, beautiful, wealthy or skillful a prisoner is, he is at the mercy of the prison warden so long as he remains in that prison.
His activities are controlled and his movements restricted. His ideas do not profit him and neither do his skills make him a hero. He is totally in subjection.
Permit me to say that every man is a prisoner of his mind and his thoughts are the prison warden. Your activities, lifestyles, movements, heights are at the mercy of these thoughts.

In this world of technology, WISDOM should NEVER be replaced with westernization. The mindset is supposed to be changed and upgraded before the handset. Unfortunately, people tend to do the reverse. So, a man may have an iPhone or an iPad but without the right thoughts, and so, he only has an advanced handset, but not an advanced mindset. Consequently, he can barely get the best from such a device because his mindset is not stretched to operate the handset.

Talents and ideas are wasted when a man’s thoughts are limited and restrained by his environments.

Skills are restricted when a man places his inabilities above them. When we feed our inabilities, we make them grow to overshadow our abilities.

But, when we feed our mindsets with the right concepts and precepts, they are being retuned to accept the good things we expect.

So, the crux of the matter is for us to always RESET OUR MINDSET, because the mind will always wander easily to where it’s not fit for you and me.

Remember, a man’s MIND will either make him BLIND to or make him FIND what is good for him.

Sunday Meditations: There is a Star in Every Good Start

By Zion Emmanuel Obeten

Isn’t it good to know that there is a STAR in every good STARt?

But in a bid to compete in the rat race, small jobs are often neglected, small tasks are rejected and so, bigger opportunities that come in the clothing of these ‘small things’ are unconsciously relegated.

Most people want to make it so big the first time and so, if the start doesn’t fetch them ‘good’ fortune in a short time, they, out of frustration, push it aside.

What’s more? They keep going round in same circles while looking out impatiently for great profit and hence, miss that STAR in what they thought was a small STARt. They miss the PROFIT because they are running away from the PROBLEMS.

But there’s a call to the fact, though hard to accept by many, that no labour is without flavour, no work is without a worth and no task is without a taste.

What adds colour to all these is dependent on our perspective towards them.

The start, even though so small, should not make the man small, but rather, the man should locate and bring out that shining star out of that start. He should be able to bring out what’s ideal from that ‘little’ idea. Simply put, the difference between a star and a start is a ‘T’. All we’ve got to do is to Think big, Try harder and Trust our capability.
When all these happen, just know for sure that you are on a Transformation journey to becoming a SHINING STAR.

Remember, don’t despise a little beginning.

Sunday Meditation: Filled People in Empty Spaces

By Zion Emmanuel Obeten

The earth is such a big space that humans cannot occupy it all despite the numerous births going on. It is also true that the earth still has empty spaces. What makes it worrisome is that these empty spaces are occupied by filled people. Filled people with skills and inventions, filled people who think they were created only to give birth to babies, but neglect the fact that they can equally give birth to multi-national companies and global incorporations.

But come to think of it: Which is more painful to give birth to – babies or inventions? If the cloud holds up rain from pouring although it can give it out, the farmers are angry, feel cheated and curse. Likewise, if we hold in our inventions and skills and don’t give them out for people to use or enjoy, they feel cheated and if they do same we get cheated, because we are not supposed to be living for ourselves alone.

Imagine a woman whose baby in her womb is due to be delivered but has refused to be delivered of that baby. She stands a great risk of the loss of her life and even the baby.

So it is when those songs, books, laboratories, conglomerates, movies, banks that are to be delivered by us are not. They may end up dying within us and become even harmful to us.

The reason why we still have many empty and wasted spaces is that we have refused to fill them with what’s on our inside. We have preferred to receive rather than give out. What we receive fills us only, but what we give out fills the environment we are in.

The wake-up call right now is that we fill up those empty spaces, for of what use are they to us being empty?

We were not born to sit or stand still
We were born to get up and fill

Sunday Meditations: 7 P's That will Shape Your Life.

By Zion Emmanuel Obeten

There are seven (7) solid P’s we must discover, utilize, maximize and explore to achieve a greater dimension of success.

These 7 P’s have helped build a man’s entire foundation; these 7 P’s are needed by every manager and leader in every organization; these 7 P’s are the Pillars that hold and keep us standing tall and strongeven when the storms of failure and despondency rage.

These 7 P’s are:
·         Purpose to live for,
·         People to live with,
·         Principles to live by,
·         Profession to live out,
·         Power to live on,
·         Passion to live from and
·         Possibilities to always think through.

When you work towards fulfilling these 7 P’s, you are bound to be a PRINCIPAL in your and others’ world.

Sunday Meditations

By Zion Emmanuel Obeten

In a world of endless competition to make it ‘big,’ people have now resorted to taking the short-cuts, not being fully aware that taking short-cuts to achieving great feats only cuts short their ambitions in the future.

Zion Emmanuel Obeten
.
In a quest for power, position and recognition, quick-fix initiatives have become the order of the day, but quick-fix does not fix the problem quick, and even if it does, makes the problems surface again even more quickly.

So, that it is INSTANT, does not always make it CONSTANT. One may instantly achieve good grades by exam malpractices, but may not be able to defend them in the long run.

People devise evil and cruel means to acquire wealth, but live in perpetual fear and uncertainties all the days of their lives. That, my friend, is total foolishness and waste of time.

No wonder, those who have dubiously found their way instantly to recognition have not been able to constantly remain there, because they lack the character and capability, which they failed or foolishly ignored to build before getting there.

I’d rather wait for so long a time and acquire strength of character, adequate skills and self-development and prepare for a CONSTANT success than rush into an INSTANT, make-it-quick-by-all-means success and be put to shame as time goes by.

Going by the former is wisdom. Go for it.
